Bow Tying Tips & Tricks

Tips for tying ribbon KNOTS around a card: 

  • Cut your ribbon 3 times longer than your cardstock – 4 ¼” card – 13” – 14” of ribbon 
  • Cut your ribbon 4 times longer than your cardstock – 5 ½” card – 16” – 17” of ribbon 

Tips for tying ribbon BOWS around a card: 

  • Cut your ribbon 4 times longer than your cardstock – 4 ¼” card use 17” – 18” of ribbon 
  • Cut your ribbon 4 times longer than your cardstock – 5 ½” card use 22” – 23” of ribbon

How to tie a perfect square knot: 

  • Right over Left and under 
  • Pull straight up and down (not left to right) 
  • Left over Right and under
  • Pull only what is in your LEFT hand – this will create a nice flat centre to your square knot. 

How to tie a perfect bow: 

  • Right over Left and under
  • Pull straight up and down (not left to right) 
  • Loop the bottom/right tail 
  • Wrap the upper/left tail over the loop on the right side of the loop, under, and through. 

How to keep the ribbon in place: 

  • Punch a little half circle notch from both side of the cardstock and tuck ribbon inside. It will stay in place and not shift up and down the card.
  • Another tip, place glue dots underneath ribbon on the cardstock to secure in place
